Introductory Weightlifting

Freaked out by free weights?

Never braved a weight machine?

Anxious or unsure of how to get started?

Don't worry:

I've trained someone like you before.

We'll start with a basic strength assessment and work through simple, introductory lifts for the first few weeks. Once you're comfortable with the mechanics of form, focus, and breathing, we'll move our way up the complexity scale at a pace that's tailored to you.

My promise to you:

Within two to three months, you'll feel confident in navigating whatever lift I throw at you, you'll welcome the challenge of learning new lifts, and feel, look, and actually be stronger than you ever thought possible.

Strength Fundamentals

Unsure of the difference between a split and a superset?

Inundated with information from countless internet influencers?

I've been there before too.

When I started my lifting journey back in 2011, I walked into the gym with nothing more than a few basic lifts, recommended by a trusted friend. I followed the plan closely, with no understanding of the whys behind the work. I enjoyed seeing the results, but things soon became stale. So I dove into the research, and my passion began to bloom.

Train with me, and this too can be you.

My sessions include an emphasis on education, to empower each client with fundamental lifting knowhow. As the "what?" becomes "why?", you'll find yourself surprised, and your body will begin to want more.

Progressive Overload

Muscular Reconditioning

Progressive Overload is at the core of everything we'll do.

Referring generally to the practice of varying intra-workout intensity to bend (but not break) your muscles' limits, my approach to Progressive Overload takes on "reverse pyramid" approach.

Did that last paragraph confuse you? You're not alone.

Several of my clients, whether beginners or experts, started with little to no experience with the magic of P.O. But within just a few sessions and some noticeable strength gains, their resounding response was clear:

"I can't believe I didn't know about this!"

After just a few weeks, the nuances of Progressive Overload will become second nature. You'll know exactly what to expect with each set's sequence, and your confidence about attaining new heights will be cemented.

Muscular Reconditioning

Has it been a minute since you last lifted?

Have you struggled with injuries, or experienced extended absences, and were unsuccessful in your workout reintegration efforts?

Your experience is a common one amongst weightlifters of all levels.

It's likely that you've faced a difficult "first week back" that felt far too tough. It's even possible that you've experienced the yo-yo effect: coming back for a short time,  but finding yourself demotivated by your seemingly shrunken muscles, only to take leave from lifting again.

You're in great hands. I've been there.

I have felt the need to take a step back from the gym at times throughout my journey. In my younger years, the re-entry process was a struggle, but these days, it's something I no longer fear.

Many of my clients have come to me with serious prior lifting experience, but recent months (or even years) of total absence.

I treat these folks like I would treat myself: with understanding, encouragement, and a tailored reconditioning plan that balances where they are with where they once were at.

My mantra:

If you've been there before, you can get there again.

Mass Gain & Hypertrophy

Hybrid & Virtual Programs

Hybrid & Virtual Programs

The goal of "getting ripped" often gets a bad rap, evoking images of jacked gym-bros with big egos to match.

This doesn't have to be you.

If size is your goal, I'm the trainer to talk to.

Muscle growth occurs for everyone, regardless of outcome sought. But certain strategies can be employed to enhance and accelerate this process. Eccentric-repetition lifting and mind-muscle meditation are two approaches I use, each offering distinct but cohesive benefits toward your goal of "getting big".

Focus and tempo are central tenets of my musclebuilding approach.

Breathwork and mental imagery are underrated and often unknown skills. Even my most advanced mass-gain clients came to me with an internal clock that barked "bigger, faster, stronger". But with some time and some coaching, I've taught them how to lift smarter.

All it takes is a set of ears.

By lifting with intention rather than simply trying to "power through", you'll train your brain to connect the action with its reaction. Your internal clock will calm down, your mind-body connection will strengthen, and your muscles will grow with each and every session.

Too busy to train live?

Prefer to go it on your own?

I have a plan for you.

For the experienced lifter with a solid foundation, I offer virtual programming tailored to your abilities and goals. I'll deliver a weekly set of workouts directly to your device, with all of the specifics I'd include in an in-person session: names of lifts, set progressions, and weight predictions-- all of which I meticulously monitor behind the scenes.

Communication is central to my virtual approach.

This is a choose-your-own-adventure option, with me providing the map. But you're never alone along the journey.

Virtual check-ins are available, and text message questions are always welcome.

If you're a beginner and this sounds like a good option to you, we'll take a hybrid approach for the first month or two. We'll work together to refine your skills and establish a baseline of "safe" lifts on which to slowly expand, meanwhile monitoring your results so that I can calibrate your weights for your solo sessions. As with the fully-virtual mode, check-ins and text communication are always an option.
